COARE Takes Up The Challenge

Creative Opportunities and Reality Expressions (COARE) is challenging the employment difficulties that face many people with disabilities by taking the initiative through self-employment. Six individuals with disabilities with varying abilities started the business in 1999. They keep the company focused on the everyday lifestyle interests and needs of their customers.

The process of developing a business in any sense is a long and challenging one. For those of us with a physical disability, there are additional barriers and challenges to overcome. Some of those include transportation hassles, procuring assisting technology (computers), communication difficulties and attendant services for some participants. The nature of training people with no prior business knowledge is an expensive and time-consuming process.

Benefits to the members of COARE have been immeasurable. The increased self-confidence of the group members alone is enough to justify the efforts put forth in developing the business.
